Halloween is approaching which means it’s time to get the horror games out. Here are our tops picks to enjoy with the lights turned off and the volume cranked up:
Resident Evil
The original Resident Evil is still brilliant for it’s tension and panicking inducing moments. Exploring a creepy mansion with the potential for zombies and other vile creatures to pounce on you and forever having to plan ahead, conserving items. Not forgetting it’s bone-chilling B movie style soundtrack and cheesy voice acting make this an entertaining choice to consider. You could even play the Remake of the original which is much easier to jump into as the graphics are a lot more fresh than the PS1 original.
Silent Hill 2
James Sunderland receives a letter from his supposedly dead wife Mary, telling him to “come to Silent Hill”. But the town isn’t how James remembers it when he visited it long ago with his wife. The town is covered in a thick fog and all manner of disturbing creations lumber around the eerie town. An absolute must play.
Silent Hill 3
An adolescent girl by the name of Heather is suddenly thrown into a nightmare when the world around her disintegrates into a hellish dimension full of disturbing humanoid monsters. Heather must find out the connection between this hideous world and herself while trying to survive.
Dead Space
Similar to Resident Evil in mechanics in that your always starved of ammunition and health and taking heed of every precaution in the book. Dead Space is set on a space ship, the USG Ishimura. But the ship and it’s crew have been attacked by an unknown infection manifesting itself as a biological mess turning the crew into monstrous creations out to kill you. Great.
Siren: Blood Curse
A young TV crew from America arrive to research and film a documentary on the urban myth of Hanuda, the Vanished Village, where human sacrifices are believed to have taken place.
Hanuda is a dark, foreboding world, frozen in the 1970s and surrounded by a red sea. An ancient curse has been set upon the town and you, as the visitors, must save the remaining inhabitants including the beautiful Miyako. In order to survive you must defend yourself from the vicious Shibito, or living dead, and other terrifying monsters.
Also worth a mention:
Bully
In Bully, there happens to be a special seasonal Halloween mission involving pranking the students and teachers of Bullworth.
Red Dead: Undead Nightmare
Another festive Rockstar game. John Marston returns in the expansion to Red Dead: Redemption to save his family and fend off a hoard of the undead. It isn’t just zombie humans, there’s zombie wildlife too.
