Your Demise are a five-piece hardcore punk band from St Albans, Brighton and Salisbury in the United Kingdom. They began in 2003 and have shared stages and tours with Biohazard, Comeback Kid, Bury Your Dead, Enter Shikari, The Devil Wears Prada, Miss May I, Parkway Drive and A Day to Remember.

Recently, I was lucky enough to catch up with one of the guitarists Oz from Your Demise to chat about their new album THE GOLDEN AGE and what the boys get up to on tour.

How did you get into Your Demise and what made you want to join?

Well I had started going to a few shows that Your Demise were playing due to being friends with a few of the members many years ago. To be completely honest I was a bit of a fan boy, so when the opportunity came and was asked to join the band I jumped at the opportunity and never looked back.

Your new album, The Golden Age, is quite different to the others – what made you change?

It’s not so much of a change, but more of a natural progression I would say. We just continued with what we were doing with the kids we used to be, which is not holding ourselves to one style of music and opening up to new influences and sounds.

Is there any song that has particular meaning to you?

All the songs have a meaning for me be it musically or lyrically. For me I think born a snake has quite potent lyrics and everyone can relate to it.

How long was The Golden Age in the pipeline for and how many blood, sweat and tears went into it?

Well as soon as the kids we used to be was released, we knew we had to keep up the momentum, so last year during the summer we took 2 week long sessions in a studio to write and demo the new stuff. It was a very easy going and productive session and hopefully it has paid off in the quality of the songs.

Your going on tour soon, what kind of things do you get up to? I’ve heard you’re pretty crazy…..

Well haha I’ve calmed down quite a bit, there will be alot of hangouts and watching bands. I will have a few drinks but it’s going to be so so hot in Australia so I better be careful. I have bleached my hair for this upcoming tour.

I also heard you married a pork chop… Is this true?

Haha, yeah it is true. I had a full blown wedding in the car park of chain reaction in Anneheim So Cal. It was pretty wild.

Moving on from you marrying the Pork Chop, what is the story behind your PORK CHOP knuckle tattoos, are they related?

No not really! Well it all started from a drinking game called the shotgun pork chop challenge, and after that the guys started calling me porkchop so I thought it would be something a bit different from the usual love hate knuckle tatts.

Do you have any other hilarious tattoos related to the Band?

Oh wow I have so many, but probably my favourite is a house party Guestlist, which had about 24 people at, and everyone tattooed their names on my leg personally, including my band, the ghost inside, members of burning empires and a few other guests.

What do you think of the uk hardcore music scene and has it change much since you have been in it?

Like all scenes there are peaks and troughs, but right now there are alot of great bands right now, like Basement, Last Witness, Broken Teeth, Breaking Point and many more. The UK is definitely where it’s happening right now.

What advice would you give to someone trying to get into or make a successful band?

Just work hard, play as many shows as you can and keep positive. The hard work really pays off in the end.

Finally, What are the first things you are going to do when you get home?

Haha well I have a week off between tours so it’ll be unpack, do laundry, sleep, pack then go back on tour for European and UK leg.

The Golden Age is out on 26th March – go check it out!
