One year is over, another one starts, and the traditional thing to do seems to be writing a wish list, or things we want to change or improve. As far as I am concerned, what I am looking forward to next year is a list of film releases, and I decided to share it with you (by instalments), so that you can be prepared for the great movie moments ahead of us. Enjoy!
(PS. I am omitting my favourite one, Les Miserables, because it is almost here…)
GANSTER SQUAD (10 January)
A Mob film, Sean Penn as the bad guy and Josh Brolin and soon-to-be huge star Ryan Gosling as the main leads. It could still go wrong and fall into oblivion, but if doesn’t, it will probably become a new cult film.
You will probably like it if you love: Goodfellas.
ZERO DARK THIRTY (25 January)
It was just a matter of time before someone in USA decided to make a film about Osama Bin Laden and his death, and I can tell you that I am not surprised at all that Kathryn Bigelow is the one who has made it happen. And she has chosen Jessica Chastain, Hollywood’s new “it” girl as her lead. This film, leaving aside the controversy and whatnot, has to be interesting.
You will probably like it if you love: The Hurt Locker.
WARM BODIES (8 February)
I am a bit lost about this one. I didn’t expect to see one day a film like this, but then, I haven’t read the book (and I probably should before I see it). It is about, well, zombies, but apparently it is a dark comedy, so it won’t be your average living dead film… And it starts Nicholas Hoult, whom I think is a talented actor that still hasn’t found a pivotal role to stand out.
You will probably like it if you love: I would say 28 Days Later, but that film is not very “funny”, so I will say “Treehouse of Horror III”, from The Simpsons’ fourth season. You know, the one where they all turn into zombies. If you like The Simpsons, you know exactly which episode I am talking about.
A GOOD DAY TO DIE HARD (14 February)
Can you believe that I am actually excited about this release? I will admit that the last one wasn’t as good and legendary as the others, but I am hoping that Bruce Willis will redeem himself with this one. And there are rumours about Patrick Stewart as the villain! Willis can make one of these films every two years if he wants to. So, if you are a girl and you know your boyfriend likes the Die Hard films, maybe it could be a nice Saint Valentine’s present to take him to the cinema…
You will probably like it if you love: the Die Hard saga.
OZ: THE GREAT AND POWERFUL (8 March)
The story of Oz? Starring the multitalented James Franco? Directed by Sam Raimi, responsible for the Spiderman films (the good ones, the trilogy)? I am convinced already. And it also has one of my favourite actresses, Rachel Weisz, as well as Mila Kunis and Michelle Williams. I am really looking forward to this one. And if you watch the trailer on YouTube, you will agree with me. It looks spectacular and you can tell they have worked hard on the CGI. Oh, and Danny Elfman has composed the score. It couldn’t be anyone else.
You will probably like it if you love: Alice In Wonderland.
We hope you enjoyed it! Part 2 is here..
