Although moving to another country or even to another city can sometimes be difficult you should not let the pressure get to you. Not to even mention about all the changes that one has to face when you are supposed to adapt so easily to a different lifestyle. Everything seems to be against you in the beginning, you have to meet new people, make new friends, cook, wash your clothes, all the things that you never thought that you will have to do when moving somewhere else. On top of that you have to think about uni and how to put everything together in order to succeed.
Firstly, make sure you know that most of the people feel pretty much the same as you do. You shouldn’t feel left out because for most of the people having to go through these changes it’s hard too. You should keep that in mind especially if you are one of the shy people who think that you’re not going to make it in this whole new world. I know it’s easier said than done, but once you realize that people around feel just like you do it will increase your confidence.
Secondly, try to manage your time correctly. Once uni starts everything is going to be hectic and I’m not talking about Freshers Week because that’s just fun. Make sure you understand what you have to do and go with the flow. You don’t have to know everything from the beginning. Sometimes it’s OK to learn through the experiences that happen to you. Also, think about the fact that you will have the chance to meet new people too, so uni isn’t just about studying and exams, it’s a great place to meet people that share the same interests with you.
Thirdly, sleep is very important! Too much studying and partying affect you, so try to get some good rest. I know you feel that no one needs to sleep especially when you can do so many other things in that time (surfing the Internet, oh I know), but getting some good sleep will make you feel less stressed. Plus, you don’t get to think about bad things either!
Fourthly, do something that you enjoy a lot. If you have a hobby, you enjoy sports, listening to music while dancing like a maniac in your room, watching TV series or films make sure you have the time to do this too. If there’s an activity that you love to do, it will definitely help out with the stress. If you haven’t found it yet, try all sorts of things that make you feel good about your life.
Lastly, don’t stress about uni or just life in general, just keep on smiling and everything will turn to be all right. Remember, moving to another place and doing something different gives you the chance to be someone that you always wanted to be. So just take the chance now!
