April 2012 sees the rerelease of debut single The Lady Is Not For Turning by The Novellos.
The Novellos hail from from Stoke-on-Trent, home of the legendary Torch club, famous for its pioneering role in the Northern Soul movement. They are a four piece with impeccable fashion sense that create an “intoxicating mix of Soul, Indie and Beatlesque Chutzpah”. Described as perhaps being “the most exciting young band in the UK today,” this rerelease is sure to get heads turning.
Originally released back in March 2008, The Lady Is Not For Turning shot The Novellos to fame. The track was championed across the likes of Radio 1, Radio 2, 6 Music, and XFM before peaking at Number 3 in the Indie Charts in March 2008. Following this fruition, The Novellos enjoyed more praise and chart success in 2008 after an extensive UK tour and three sold out showcase events hosted by their label, Sons Records. 2008 was rounded off for The Novellos in a Radio 1 Maida Vale session for Steve Lamacq’s ‘In New Music We Trust‘ show and the extension of their contract with Sons Records.
Between then and now, The Novellos have been holed up in the studio focusing on a catalogue of new material. Preferring to record in Analog rather than succumbing to the digital age, Sons Records provided the perfect platform for The Novellos. There is a rule within Sons Records that artists must record solely with Vox amps and Rickenbacker guitars to capture that vintage feel of the swinging 60’s and the soulful 70’s.
Because that’s what it’s all about, the feel of the music. If it feels right then usually it is.
We have all that and more to look forward to but this rerelease of the single that started it all off is more than enough to wet the tongue.
The vinyl single will be out in April on Sons Records.
